On the environment:

  • LORI SALDAÑA co-authored the landmark Global Warming Solutions Act (AB 32) to reduce greenhouse emissions and expand the state's renewable energy resources.
  • LORI SALDAÑA co-authored the Million Solar Panel Initiative to make solar power more affordable and decrease the use of fossil fuels in California.
  • LORI SALDAÑA introduced measures to keep toxic materials out of California landfills and to protect the state's public tidelands from predatory development.
  • LORI SALDAÑA authored measures to expand the use of sustainable building materials and energy efficiency features in new construction.
  • LORI SALDAÑA authored legislation to increase the state's Environmental Fund, to get more hybrid vehicles and reduced-emission buses on the road, to clean up cross-border sewage, and to prevent toxic chemicals from seeping into the soil and groundwater.
  • LORI SALDAÑA is one of the legislature's leading environmentalists. A nationally recognized water quality expert, Lori is the former chair of the local Sierra Club, organized and co-founded San Diego Earth Day Celebrations, and she was a Presidential appointee to the Border Environment Cooperation Commission.

On education:

  • LORI SALDAÑA helped lead the fight to restore education cuts and fully fund our K-12 schools.
  • LORI SALDAÑA has worked tirelessly to keep tuition affordable to state colleges and universities.

On military families and veterans:

  • LORI SALDAÑA successfully fought to open the doors of California's preschools to childen of armed service members.
  • LORI SALDAÑA authored legislation to curb the abuse of military families by payday lenders.
  • LORI SALDAÑA wrote legislation to expand the state Cal-Vet Home Loan program and to provide free tuition for National Guard members at UC, State and Community Colleges.
  • LORI SALDAÑA wrote measures to ensure that children of active duty service members succeed in California schools.
  • LORI SALDAÑA carried legislation to provide expanded mental health services to California's veterans.

On public safety:

  • LORI SALDAÑA authored a bill to increase financial penalites and jail time for repeat hit-and-run drivers.

  • LORI SALDAÑA fought for appropriate labeling on sweet alcoholic drinks marketed to teenagers.

On good governrment and fair elections

  • LORI SALDAÑA passed legislation preventing hackers gaining access to the state's electronic voting machines.
  • LORI SALDAÑA championed an audit of the California State Universities that could result in millions of dollars saved from reforms to CSU's hiring and executive compensation practices.
  • LORI SALDAÑA authored legislation to increase competition and diversity in people serving in elected office through public campaign financing.
  • LORI SALDAÑA has been outspoken about the the need to fix the state's dysfunctional budget process.
