ON THE ISSUES...

On the environment:

• LORI SALDAÑA co-authored the landmark Global Warming Solutions Act (AB 32) to reduce greenhouse emissions and expand the state’s renewable energy resources.

• LORI SALDAÑA co-authored the Million Solar Panel Initiative (SB 1) to make solar power more affordable and decrease the use of fossil fuels in California.

• LORI SALDAÑA authored legislation to increase the state’s Environmental Fund, to get more hybrid vehicles and reduced-emission buses on the road, to clean up cross-border sewage, and to prevent toxic chemicals from seeping into the soil and groundwater.

• LORI SALDAÑA is one of the legislature’s leading environmentalists. A nationally recognized water quality expert, Lori is the former chair of the local Sierra Club, organized and co-founded San Diego Earth Day Celebrations, and she was a Presidential appointee to the Border Environment Cooperation Commission.

On education:

• LORI SALDAÑA helped lead the fight to restore educations cuts and fully fund our K-12 schools.

• LORI SALDAÑA has worked tirelessly to keep tuition affordable to state colleges and universities. A former college professor, Lori stabilized community college funding and lowered community college fees.

• LORI SALDAÑA passed legislation to help pay off education loans for math, science and special education teachers to attract more teachers in these fields. In addition, LORI SALDAÑA supported legislation to increase pre-school funding, provide grants to expand music, art and physical education programs, and issue bonds to repair and renovate run-down schools, build new science and computer labs, and construct new classrooms.

On healthcare:

• LORI SALDAÑA helped pass legislation that lowered prescription drug costs for seniors and expanded health coverage to uninsured children.

• LORI SALDAÑA wrote legislation to establish a Bill of Rights for seniors in nursing homes and to require fire sprinklers in all senior residential facilities.

• LORI SALDAÑA has worked hard to pass legislation to provide health insurance for all Californians.

• LORI SALDAÑA helped pass legislation that created a “Report Card” for Medicare Part D Drug Plans and that established a website comparing prices for 150 common prescription medications.

On military service:

• LORI SALDAÑA authored legislation to curb the abuse of military families by so-called “payday lenders”.

• LORI SALDAÑA wrote legislation to expand the state Cal-Vet Home Loan program and to provide free tuition for National Guard members at UC, State and Community Colleges.

• LORI SALDAÑA wrote the School Age Military Dependants Act to ensure that children of active duty military are placed promptly and properly in our K-12 schools when moving to California because a parent has been transferred here.

On being accountable:
